Dorice Neir

M.Ed., M.A., L.P.C
Dorice is licensed in Georgia
While living in Hong Kong, I earned my Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Newcastle Upon Tyne University in the United Kingdom. Later, I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at City University of Seattle in Bellevue, Washington.

With over 20 years of counseling experience both internationally and in the United States, I bring a broad, culturally informed perspective to my work. My cross-cultural background has deepened my understanding of how people from different walks of life experience emotions, relationships, and personal growth. This allows me to meet clients with empathy, insight, and a flexible approach that respects each person’s unique worldview.

A wise counseling theorist once said, “Problems never exist in a pure state; there is always a human being attached to them.”

As a therapist, my commitment isn’t just to addressing a particular issue—it’s to the whole person who carries it. Behind every struggle lies a unique story, shaped by emotion, memory, and experience. I approach each client with the understanding that distress is rarely simple or isolated. It’s often woven into deeper layers of identity, past wounds, and personal meaning.

I also believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful force for healing. When a counselor offers unconditional regard, authentic presence, and a person-valuing approach, the process of therapy becomes more than treatment—it becomes transformation.

Trauma Work with TIST

Over time, I realized many of my clients were struggling with unresolved trauma—even if they didn’t recognize it as such. That led me to pursue training in Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), which blends neuroscience, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic awareness to help clients understand their internal experience in a new way. With TIST, we explore the idea that distressing thoughts, emotions, and body sensations are communications from protective parts of the self—formed during past trauma.

This approach helps clients build self-compassion, regulate overwhelming emotions, and reclaim their ability to respond rather than react. It has become one of the most effective and meaningful tools in my practice.
Dynamic Program of Change

“The psychotherapist’s job, like that of orthopedic surgeons, is to provide the conditions in which self-healing can take place.”
—John Bowlby

If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, the effects of abuse, or ongoing relationship challenges, you're not alone—and healing is possible.

I offer a dynamic program of change designed to help you access new choices, break free from old patterns, and walk your sacred life journey with more clarity and strength. Together, we’ll explore your unique inner resources and rediscover the abilities that may have been hidden beneath pain or survival-mode living.

This is not a one-size-fits-all path. It’s a personal, powerful process of transformation—one that can bring you a renewed sense of empowerment, emotional freedom, and connection with yourself and those you love.
Unwrap the Cords of Distress

In relationships, emotional pain often gets tangled—like invisible cords that tighten with every misunderstanding, every hurtful word, and every silence. I help couples gently unwrap these cords of distress, creating space for clarity, compassion, and healing.

Many couples find themselves stuck in cycles of conflict without fully understanding where the reactions are coming from. Often, these patterns are rooted in deep-seated emotions—feelings of fear, rejection, or past wounds that haven’t yet been acknowledged or healed.

When these underlying emotions are uncovered and compassionately explored, something powerful happens: renewal.

Change becomes possible. Trust can be rebuilt. And new ways of connecting begin to emerge.
Asking for Help Isn't Easy!

Reaching out for help can feel vulnerable. It means opening up to someone you’ve never met, not knowing if you’ll be understood—or if you’ll feel safe enough to truly share what’s on your heart.

I want you to know: you’re not alone in feeling that way.

My goal is to offer more than just therapy—I offer a relationship built on trust, warmth, and unconditional positive regard. In our work together, you’ll find a space that is calm, non-judgmental, and deeply supportive—where your story is held with care and respect.

If you're ready, even just a little bit, I welcome you to walk this path of healing with me. We’ll take each step together.
